“I look to the future because that’s where I’m going to spend the rest of my life,” (George Burns, at age 87; he lived to be 100: Quoteland).
“We can all be angels to one another. we can choose to obey the still small stirring within, the little whisper that says, ‘Go. Ask. Reach out. Be an answer to someone’s plea. You have a part to play. Have faith.’ We can decide to risk that He is indeed there, watching, caring, cherishing us as we love and accept love. The world will be a better place for it. And wherever they are, the angels will dance,” (Joan Wester Anderson: Quote World).

The following prayer was written by General Douglas MacArthur:
Build me a son, O Lord, who will be strong enough to know when he is weak, and brave enough to face himself when he is afraid; one who will be proud and unbending in honest defeat, and humble and gentle in victory.
Build me a son whose wishbone will not be where his backbone should be; a son who will know Thee….Lead him, I pray, not in the path of ease and comfort, but under the stress and spur of difficulties and challenge. Here let him learn to stand up in the storm; here let him learn compassion for those who fail.
Build me a son whose heart will be clean, whose goal will be high; a son who will master himself before he seeks to master other men; one who will learn to laugh, yet never forget how to weep; one who will reach into the future, yet never forget the past.
And after all these things are his, add, I pray, enough of a sense of humor, so that he may always be serious, yet never take himself too seriously. Give him humility, so that he may always remember the simplicity of greatness, the open mind of true wisdom, the meekness of true strength.
Then I, his father, will dare to whisper, “I have not lived in vain.”
Though most of us are not nearly so eloquent, I suspect that all Christian parents have uttered a similar prayer. Mindful of the great responsibility that God has given those of us with children, we pray fervently that God would help us as we strive to train our children in the ways of the Lord.
While still childless, Hannah made this vow to God: “O Lord of hosts, if you will indeed look on the affliction of your maidservant and remember me, and not forget your maidservant, but will give your maidservant a male child, then I will give him
to the Lord all the days of his life….” (I Samuel 1:11). It was a vow she kept, and her son Samuel became one of the greatest spiritual leaders Israel ever knew.
May Hannah’s prayer and Gen MacArthur’s prayer be the prayer of all Christian parents this day

As we look back over our lives, it is not too difficult to see that
what we went through was for a purpose and helped to prepare us for
some valuable work in life. Everything in our lives can help make us
of some use in the world. Each person’s life is like the pattern of a
mosaic. Each thing that happens to us is like one tiny stone in the
mosaic, and each tiny stone fits into the perfected pattern of the
mosaic of our life, which has been designed by God.

I went to Makati for a meeting this morning. You know us teachers, we do need a “racket” from time to time to augment our meager salaries. I took the MRT and it was really heartwarming to note that chivalry is still alive. I saw men giving up their seats for women, although there were some who declined the seats offered.
Since it was still early I just walked from the Ayala-MRT station to Rada Street in Legaspi Village. I passed by the Greenbelt chapel to say a little prayer. The area around the chapel has really improved. I can still picture myself, 30 years ago sitting around the pond that house the chapel, eating my lunch.
I used to stay there during lunch break, while I was in between interviews and exams (I was applying for a job then). Funny, how an English major eventually got a job in a bank, but that’s another story.
